The much-anticipated Kingdom movie, starring Vijay Deverakonda and directed by Gowtam Tinnanuri, has finally arrived. This spy action thriller promised a grand blend of historical drama, brotherhood, and high-stakes espionage. While it succeeds brilliantly in some areas, the Kingdom movie leaves audiences and critics alike with a mixed reaction
Kingdom Movie Review – Plot Twist
The story begins with a stunning prologue, set in the late 1920s, about a tribal community saving themselves from British colonial forces. Then, the film opens 70 years later. We’re introduced to Suri (Vijay Deverakonda), an angry police constable. Suri is searching for his missing brother, Shiva. But Suri, despite the personal search for justice, ends up on a covert mission as a spy. Suri needs to infiltrate a powerful smuggling cartel. But once he’s there, Suri discovers the leader is the brother he’s been searching for all this time. The central conflict of the Kingdom film hinges on the emotional and tension-filled reunion, and the two brothers’ escalation of broken paths, and conspiracy that ties into their previous relationship.
Performance in the Kingdom Movie: Vijay Deverakonda’s Powerful Return and the Ensemble Cast

One of the best things about the Kingdom film has been Vijay Deverakonda’s performance. After some recent setbacks at the box office, this role is taking a strong lead in the comeback department. He portrays Suri with raw, simmering intensity and delivers a palpable pain and rage, as a man on a mission. He is magnetic on screen and his emotional scenes with Satyadev (who plays the older brother Shiva) are the most impactful part of the entire film. The chemistry between him and Satyadev is evident and one of the highlights of the entire narrative.
The film’s ensemble cast offers meaningful weight to the unfolding story. Bhagyashri Borse makes a sincere attempt as Dr. Madhu, Suri’s love interest. Venkitesh V.P. impresses as the cold and brutal villain and offers a strong debut in the Telugu industry.
Anirudh Ravichander Music & Technical Brilliance

Anirudh Ravichander’s background score is another major win, with fans praising its ability to elevate key scenes and create an immersive experience. However, there was some audience disappointment that the popular promotional track “Hridayam Lopala” was not as prominent in the final cut.
The Kingdom movie is a sight to behold, technically speaking. The cinematography by Girish Gangadharan and Jomon T. John is impressive, including great shots of the breathtaking Sri Lankan scenery. The action scenes were choreographed in a down-to-earth and visceral way that connected dance aesthetics to the emotions of the story.
The Kingdom Movie Box Office and Public Verdict
The Kingdom movie has received a mixed bag of reviews, but its box office numbers tell a strong story. The film has reportedly grossed between ₹33.56 crore and ₹39 crore worldwide on its opening day, marking a personal best for Vijay Deverakonda. While it didn’t surpass the domestic opening of his previous film Liger, its overall worldwide gross has been a major success. The Hindi version of the film has also contributed to the overall numbers, earning ₹0.5 crore on its opening day.
- IMDb Rating: The film has a user rating of 8.1/10 based on early reviews.https://www.imdb.com/title/tt11773426/
- Audience Consensus (from social media): Many have praised the strong first half, technical aspects, and powerhouse performances, particularly from Deverakonda. However, the film’s second half and a narrative that sets up a sequel have faced criticism, with some viewers feeling it ended too abruptly.
- Critic Consensus: Critics have also been divided. While many acknowledge the strong performances, technical brilliance, and emotional core, they often point to a convoluted second half and a narrative that tries to juggle too many elements without finding a central thread.
Final Verdict

The Kingdom movie is visually stunning and has great acting, but it doesn’t quite live up to its ambitious promise. The film has a fantastic performance from Vijay Deverakonda and a strong technical team. This becomes a big hit, and a major comeback movie for the actor, although a muddled second half and an overstuffed and unfocused narrative keep it from being a really great movie.
In the end, the Kingdom movie is basically worth watching for Vijay Deverakonda’s big comeback, visuals and Anirudh music. Just expect a story that, like its title, kind of feels like two different stories.
